The Sourcies jerk some tears with Most Heartbreaking Moment

You'll excuse us if we're a little fragile at the moment -- we've been sobbing quietly into our hankies as we went through the roster of your nominations for most heartbreaking moments on the CW this season. It was a bad year for moms, love and brothers on The CW, and we're still recovering. See what we mean below:

OK, because our poll provider is being wonky, and the poll is supposed to be closed, I'm taking a snapshot of the results and taking it down. And the winner is:

Oh, and congrats to Damon and Alaric of The Vampire Diaries, who defeated the tomb vamps and won the title of Best Fight. Actually, those tomb vamps were less of a challenge than Castiel and Dean from Supernatural -- the vampire/teacher duo fended off the angel/Hunter smackdown by only 4 percent. Well done winning that tough fight, boys!

Sam! this was the end of his journey. In season 1 he was just this guy who hated hunting nd tried to live a normal life. Has the series advanced he became more darker yet still trying to do the best 4 his brother nd the world. It was just heartbreaking when he jump into that hole straight to the pit. He didn't deserve that, not him! nd trying to compare a 5 years magnificent story w/some vampires that just appeared this year it's just wrong! Supernatural has the best fans in the world nd the series deserves respect! *this 1 is for the CW* 5 years + lot's of fans + amazing plot + amazing actors + Kripke + Conventions around the world (what about that?) = best series in the world! Supernatural 4ever
from: huge portuguese fan :)

There was time where I couldn't imagine ever saying TVD was better than SPN but after that joke of a finale for SPN, I can no longer make such a claim.

Also as many have pointed out, Damon is waaaaay hotter than Sam.

SUPERNATURAL IT'S THE BEST, 5 season later, and still have loyal fans who follow the show, not only in US, here in Latinoamerica have a lot of fans, VD is a new show, still need make more credits to be a the same place as SPN. No offence VD fans, but maybe now has so many fans voting for the show but the truth is that the vampires' shows are a new mode, just that.

Goodness, did the lame and sucky season finale of Supernatural win??? How is that even possible?? That was the worst season finale ever. - I laughed, it was totally ridiculous! Drink demon blood and save the world?? Lame, Supernatural, lame!!

I voted for Damon, but can't really be upset, SPN had a great ep and I did cry.

I am glad the best moment won.
That was a culmination of a long journey for Sam .

I like VD but didnt find that a overly heartbreaking moment sad yes but not heartbreaking .

@AndreA you cannot tell VD fans to wake up. Supernatural has their fans and so does VD. They're both good tv shows and they both deserve to win (SPN seems to be winning this one and VD won two on the previous polls).

How can anything that ever happens to a vampire be considered 'heartbreaking'? They are cold blooded killers! They don't deserve to be happy!

yOU GUYS!Come on VD is better than supernatural. What's wrong with you!? Supernatural is better than VD in the next category too!I meann VD fans wake up!

@Shay, I guess you wouldn't say the same if the VD won with 2-3%...! but if it makes you feel better...
Anyway, shouldn't this poll have been closed by now??? Or are they dragging it until TVD comes first???

I voted for Supernatural because it had be crying. I mean, yeah there were better moments in the season for the Most Heartbreaking Moment, but Swan Song was still pretty tragic.

Also, last time I checked this SPN had 42% with only 4000+ votes. Now it says 41% with 5,139 votes. What is up with that? And no, I'm sure I didn't read it wrong the last time I checked it.

TVD was absoultely heartbreaking. Especially the scene where Anna says, "she knew where you were Dmaon...she didn't care." Too bad they didn't include that in the clips for this category, but the whole situation itself was so sad. TVD hands down.

O Brasil Ama Supernatural!
Sam e Dean são amados pelos brasileiros!!!

Even if Supernatural wins this, they'll only win 2 or 3 percent. Ah big difference ;p

TVD FTW.

I was glad Katherine wasn't in that tomb and Damon's obsession was proven useless and empty. It was justice, not heart-breaking.

Swan Song in Supernatural is for me the most heartbreaking episode in this serie and Sam`s final good bye and Dean helpless witness and supporting Sam in this is so hurtful to watch, I can`t even think of another one, it is no question. The other series are not even important to me. When you think where they both started, what happened in these 5 years and then watching this ultimate sacrifice Sam gave up his life, and Dean let him doing it, aww man, there isn`t another choice, really.
The brothers Winchester are the best brothers on TV! And I am rooting for Sam, ..and his heartbreaking redemption! My heart fell right with Sam into that hole *sigh*

I cried when they showed the flashbacks of Sam and Dean when Sam/Lucifer was beating Dean to a pulp. Supernatural rules over VD hands down!:-)

Ah...Damon!!! How sad!!! I only see Vampire Diaries=Best Show Ever!!!
90210 and Life Unexpected!!!

Supernatural, without a doubt. I haven't cried that hard in a long time. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes, and I hardly ever cry. Ever. This show, these boys, just touch my soul, and seeing Sam make such a sacrifice... I'm torn between being happy that he found redemption and deeply saddened by the price he had to pay to achieve it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go watch "Swan Song" again and bawl my eyes out.

And I agree with Katy. Supernatural does not deserve to win this category. I think Damon's tragedy is far greater than Sam's. Seeing this scene as a breakdown because some girl did not want him shows lack of understanding. While Sam had Dean supporting him, Damon had no one. He decided to push away the only person that truly loved him (Stefan), just because he cared too much about Katherine. And then he realizes that she never wanted him. That he hurt Stefan, made him suffer, numbed himself to human emotions, embraced "vampirism", became a monster for nothing. And he has no one (or so he thinks), and the only thing left for him is guilt (that he tried to shut down).
Sam, on the other hand, made a choice. Even though it hurt him, it hurt Dean, at the end of the day it was the right thing to do and Sam became the real hero. While Damon not only was left alone, but also blew all of his chances of not being the villain (or so he thinks).

I feel like Supernatural could have done something more heartbreaking than Sam's sacrifice. The whole season was full of moments that just destroyed me - Sam's moment with "Jessica", Bobby stabbing himself and later killing his wife, Dean throwing away the amulet from Sam, Jo and Ellen's deaths (that had me BAWLING), Castiel's fall from grace, Sam's flashback in the season finale, and the utter feeling of hopelessness throughout so much of the season.

But by the time Sam actually sacrifices himself, I didn't cry. I knew it was coming. His sacrifice felt so inevitable. It was like there was nothing left to break in us anymore - that was all over. It was more numbing than "heartbreaking", wasn't it?

That said, it was still an epic, terrible, beautiful moment, so I voted for it anyway. Screw semantics.

I thought the slo-mo Sam jumping into the pit and dragging Adam with him, kinda hilarious. I don't think I was supposed to, but the cheesy special affects and background musak just made me laugh.

No idea how Vampire Diaries is winning. Barely a heartbreaking moment. This should go to OTH (saddest episode since Season 3) or Supernatural. They deserve it.

Saludos gente!!! Y dejen de hacer series de colegialas, superenlo :)

I have to say that TVD and SPN definitely need to be at the top, but Supernatural wins this one hands down. Sam's sacrifice was heartbreaking to fight against Lucifer in his own body and to finally win thanks to his brother's pleading and a onslaught of brotherly moments was absolutely heartbreaking.

It's going to Sam for me.

Watching Damon cry over a lover didn't do it for me probably because I didn't watch the show and the impact of it even touch me. [Though I've seen enough shows were lovers have disappeared and died and never really cried]

However, I say this when I watched Swan Song it had me actually crying, a feat most shows never get. Watching that scene again made my eyes prickle though, they should've had the scene where Dean is saying he wouldn't leave Sam because that was horribly heartbreaking.

Out of the four of these shows that I still follow, I have to say that the OTH scene had me crying the most - even rewatching it.

I cried during the GG scene, the TVD scene was sad, but not the most heartbreaking of the season by far, and I cried through almost every episode of the season for Supernatural, but that wasn't the show's most heartbreaking scene this season, and I think Lydia's death and the impact of the three girls in that episode were the some of the most tearjerking scenes I've ever watched on OTH.

That's why OTH has gotten my vote. Because I feel it's the most deserving, not because I don't feel the others aren't, but because it affected me the most.

o ultimo sacrificio de Sam com certeza , putz posso ver esta cena varias vezes sempre me emociono.
Supernatural sempre.

There is no doubt that Supernatural should win for this category, but I do have to admit that they could have picked a better scene. I for one think that the scene where Dean returns to Lisa and is barely holding it together should have been their pick. Of course Sam sacrificing himself is incredibly heartbreaking, that specific scene doesn't spell that out as well as it could.

I'll admit I am a huge huge huge SPN fan so my vote was pretty much a given... even though I'm also a fan of TVD.

PS. I find it sort of funny that people think it's "stupid" when people simply vote for their favourite show rather than objectively watching each clip and choosing the one that best fits the category. There is nothing objective about the sourcies and it makes complete sense for someone to vote for their favourite show. First off, if you've never watched the other shows in the running, you will have no idea what their scenes represent for that show and you will not fully understand what it is about that scene that makes it heartbreaking. Secondly, when you love a show, you generally become attached to its characters...so of course anything bad that happens to them will seem heartbreaking to you if you're really invested in the show. And finally, people just want their favourite shows to win! What's the harm in that?

If you're pissed about the options that you are voting for maybe you should have done some nominating then (IF YOU DIDN'T) since these were voted by the ones on here and the most votes moved on (AS LONG AS THE CW SOURCIES PEOPLE ARE PLAYING FAIR). I didn't go back and tally each and every nom myself.

On that note, how can Supernatural NOT be kicking ass on this one. It should be way out ahead.

Has anyone else noticed that Supernatural wins virtually every category every year? Seems other shows don't even have a chance at winning

This should go for TVD/Damon. A true heartbreaking moment is where you don't even have to be a die hard fan of the show to understand the heartbreak. With the SPN scene, I have to say that the Sacrifice bit has been done way better before, didn't evoke any feelings in me. Maybe I should've seen the whole eppie to get it, but that just proves that the scene on its own doesn't produce that heartbreak. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that the finale was sad(I keep hearing about it from all my friends), it just doesn't show in that scene.

With Damon...My heart just breaks for the guy. He's been alive for 160 years, with only one thing driving him forward. He's been alone all this time, shutting himself away from humanity just to reach one goal: Save his lover. For 150 years, that's all that's been driving him. And to find out that the whole reason you've been fighting on for over a century couldn't give a flying fcuk about you...That's heartbreaking. In that scene, he lost everything. I had to vote for him.

People die all the time so the normal angsty death scene just doesn't do it for me anymore. Someone losing hope completely does get to me. It's why I definitely think that SPN's scene should've come from "Abandon All Hope" instead of "Swan Song".

YAY finally a sourcies I can get behind for Supernatural. Now this is the one that 'should' win by a country mile. Come on SN fans!

Totally agree with you, Mags. I would have had a much harder time picking Damon heartbroken over Katherine if he'd been up against Ellen and Jo. I felt totally numb after that episode. The finale? Not so much.

Whoever said Damon is hotter than Sam, wasn't lying.

However if I had to choose between Damon and Dean, now that would have been a much tougher choice.

Oh sorry. We were talking about heart-breaking moments weren't we? *EG*

Uh, definitely Damon finding out the truth about Katherine. *sniffle*

It's not that people are ''Cheating'', the problem is cause people are always voting VD cause the ''Cast it cute''

When it's suppose to be about categories and not the actors' look

Jess T, you have the best comment, and i'm 1,000% with you! i'm a die hard, hardcore Supernatural fan and i believe Supernatural deserves every award, but this one, they definitely deserve it the most. it was one of the most truly heartbreaking moments in the whole season/finale. SPN should absolutely take this one home!!

i don't watch the other shows, though i didn't find TVD heartbreaking at all! and yes i do watch TVD, but i don't really find it that much appealing. and this is coming from a HUGE vampire fan! i mean, come on, with that scene in SPN with Sam sacrificing himself and Dean kneeling where Lucifer's cage was, it made me cry! actually, pretty much all through the finale it made me tear up/cry.
and yes, i agree with others who say that the other scenes on SPN were quite heartbreaking as well. like when Jo and Ellen sacrificed themselves to blow themselves up, i seriously cried my eyes out! every time i watch that episode ("Abandon All Hope"), i cry like a baby. it's such a sad, heartbreaking moment!
by the way, i still think the Jo and Dean kiss should of won for best kiss. it was so sad, plus that kiss was long (and i mean season 2 long) over due.

anyways, SUPERNATURAL ALL THE WAY!!!!!!! BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!
AND EVEN IF THEY DON'T WIN THIS CATEGORY (WHICH THEY REALLY SHOULD), OR OTHERS, I KNOW IN MY HEART AND EVERYONE ELSE'S THAT THEY DESERVE TO WIN!!!!

the whole spn episode had me crying....so this wins by a landslide for me.

but i cried for damon pretty hard as well...poor baby :(

I love The Vampire Diaries with all my heart but I vote for 3 scene, because it was really sad one.

I'm with Bells. The TVD scene was better and more than that, Sam's sacrifice was not the most heartbreaking scene in Supernatural this season.

Ellen and Jo should have that one hands down this season. That was heartbreaking, I've never cried so hard during a Supernatural scene and I never even liked Jo.

Their sacrifice scene felt real, both those actresses hit it out of the park.

To be honest, I found Dean throwing away Sam's amulet more heartbreaking than Sam sacrificing himself.

I think this scene of SPN is the most heartbreaking, after all the brothers are been through, and Dean couln't make anything to stop Sam but watching; maybe the scene just before, when Sam was seeing all his memories and taking control of his body again is even more heartbreaking for me, it's the result of all the past seasons; Dean who's seeing his two young brother sacrifice themselves is so hard to watch, i just cry with him

i think for Smallville the most heartbreaking scene in season 9 was in the scene finale when Clark's sacrificed himself to save humanity and Earth; he just decided to not fight and take the wisest decision but it wasn't easy to leave his friends and love

the scene in TVD was very sad but not the most of all the show but i'd love when Damon and Elena are getting closed

I'm a die-hard TVD/Damon fan, and I barely watch SPN anymore, but if Jo sacrificing herself had been an option, I would have voted for that. I'm really surprised it's not there. So, Damon gets my votes.

Ok. There were only two things that I did during the finale of SN: yell and cry. I wish I was kidding. So hands down, that wins for me.
Smallville would be my second choice.

As for TVD, I remember that episode. Although I do get how disappointing (and well, pretty damn hurtful especially after 150 years) it could be. Heartbreaking does not describe the scene.

And I'm pretty sure that there were other Life Unexpected scenes that were much more well suited to be in this category.

Supernatural for me hands down. I've been watching the show since it began and so we've had five seasons of watching Sam and Dean build up toward this very moment. I would say that Sam's ultimate sacrifice and saving the entire world by hurling himself into Hell would take the cake anyday. I cried pretty hard watching Sam throw himself into the pit. It just goes to show that Sam was never meant to be evil. The man has a heart of gold.

However, I am not saying that OTH or TVD's scenes weren't heartbreaking either, because they were. Lydia's death was really sad and tear-jerking. Damon's search for Katherine for 150 years only to find out she wasn't in that tomb was very sad. I also liked it when Elena hugged him. My heart went out to Damon.

Srsly guys wake up. Why people always throw the argument that "people vote for they favourite show". SPN is winning by a large distance so that idea doesn't quite applies here. respect other people's choices. it's a free world.

I am a SPN fan since the first season and I voted in the TVD BECAUSE that scene in SPN was not the most tearjecker of the season sorry. Ellen and Jo SHOULD be here. So yeah, Damon finding out Katherine was not in the tomb was WAY more heartbreaking than Sam throwing him and Adam down the hole...

IL MOMENTO PIU' COMMOVENTE........E' IN ONE TRE HILL .........QUANDO LYDIA SALUTA PER L'ULTIMA VOLTA LE SUE FIGLIE HALEY,TAYLOR E QUINN......E' VERAMENTE EMOZIONANTE..........

Jess.... Your comment is made of win!

Let me just say that I agree with you 100%. Very, very well said!

NOW you chose an excellent scene for Supernatural! :)

Just reading this made my cry all over again!

That Vampire Diaries scene is utterly heartbreaking - Damon waited for 140 years to get into the tomb and to get Katherine, only to find that she was never even there... and that she didn't care at all.

OTH hands down. Lydia...dying? Can't get any more sad than that! Vote One Tree Hill!

I had to go with Damon's scene over Sam's as well. Sorry Sammy but Damon is just hotter.

I am a huge fan of TVD, and it's honestly the only show that I really watch out of all of these. I used to love OTH, but stopped watching after the 4th season, but for this category, I had to pick OTH hands down for most heartbreaking moment. When I watched all the clips, it was the ONLY scene that actually brought tears to my eyes while watching, and this decision was based soley on the clips shown, since other than TVD I don't know what came before or after. But OTH wins in my book!

Yes, I picked SPN. Yes I'm a huge fan & didn't really watched other shows but not because of that. Sam sacrifice was actually five years in the making. Since knowing Azazel had plans for him he had been trying to find redemption & ended up releasing Lucifer instead. He understood what it mean't to be locked with Lucifer for eternity yet he was willing to sacrifice. In the end, I think he finally found his redemption tho I never he needed one in the first place. And Dean...that was biggest heartbreaks of all. He raised Sam & then he let Sam go to the place he hated the most.

"Okay, I can say for 100% of my confidence, that Supernatural should win this one HANDS DOWN.
No matter how many loyal fans TVD has (willing to vote for the show no matter what), Supernatural should take this one home. No love for a girl can trump 5 seasons of strongly bonded brothers. They've had their bumps and struggles with each other through the years, but Sam and Dean always keep coming back to each other. Without either, their lives as hunters would've been a lonely one and honestly not long. They've saved each other more times than one can even count. Sam and Dean were willing to sell their souls to save each other. No love for a vampire chick can beat that.

And here, Sam makes the ultimate sacrifice for humanity and Dean promised not to bring him back or kill himself if Sam does that. Dean now has to live a life away from his little brother whom he was supposed to protect his entire life. Dean had to WATCH as BOTH his brothers tumble into Lucifer's cave. Even putting aside how heartbreaking Sam's sacrifice was, there's also Adam. Dean doesn't have any remaining family anymore. And his two brothers must now spend eternity in the worst parts of hell. How heartbreaking is that??"

All of this is true but that's not what the vote is for.

I think the saddest moment that encapsulates all of this is when Dean keeps his promise to Sam and goes to Lisa and breaks down in her arms. That's the scene that finally choked me up and the scene that I would have voted for.

OTH man watching Lydia die was the saddest and then seeing how it affected haley, taylor and quinn just put the icing on the cake.. so i voted OTH

For SMALLVILLE, the most 'heartbreaking moment' should've been when Clark gave up everything and everyone he loved with the Ultimate Sacrifice of his own life to save humankind from being enslaved and tortured by Zod in the finale,
"Salvation"; NOT his refusal to change the timeline to save Jimmy just because Chloe asked him to. So, I couldn't vote since the only other CW show I watch is "LU" and I didn't think that was worthy of the vote, either.

I think they should put for gossip girl when chuck got shot. I cried so hard at the end. All the show's on the cw can anyone cry!

All of these different scenes may be heartbreaking in some way, but nothing beats something that's been nearly 5 years in the making. In this case, nothing beats SPN - and really, the whole finale itself was one, giant, "Most Heartbreaking Moment" - with everything it was made of.

In this case, in this instance, SPN truly does deserve to win the category. And even if vamp mania overtakes it (like everything else in the world), the fact still remains that out of all of these different moments, SPN truly is the best here.

definitely supernatural its the best show ever invented its all the way sam and dean so glad theirs a season 6

Is it just me or do the Supernatural fans seem a tad bitter? It is quite possible other people find other moments to be bigger tearjerkers. Moments like this category come from when you've invested your emotion in a character. I've never seen Supernatural, therefore I have no attachment to the moment that was played, at all. Where as I've watched tvd from the beginning. When Katherine wasn't in the tomb, well, that was everything the show had been building to all season, everything Damon had waited 150 years for, the reason behind why Damon killed all those people. So, as a fan, when she wasn't there it was a pretty big moment. But it's like I said, if no one has an emotional attachment to a show, they're not going to think much of it.

I have never cried so much in my life as I did when Lydia died on One Tree Hill. Like I mean I was hysterical, I don't know what came over me. So I voted for One Tree Hill. If I could have had a second pick, it would have defiantly been when Damon finds out that Kathrine is not in the tomb. I felt so bad for him.

It was very hard for me to pick between Damon and Sam, both had me crying, but I had to go with Damon. I do love my vampire.

It's a toss up between OTH and SPN for me. Although, I wish the scene with Luci!Sam beating up Dean was the nominee. Dean telling Sam that he would never leave him is the part that broke me down and had me crying like a baby.

The Smallville scene was good too. All the others didn't do it for me.

I got sad with TVD scene...

But COMEON NONE CAN BIT SUPERNATURAL

I cryed my eyes out with that damn thing, gosh!!

of Course Spn is the most heartbreaker scene !!!!!

All the others are weaks scene..

I'm sorry, but Jo and Ellen's sacrifice should be representing SPN. Sam's 'death' lasted all of 2 minutes.

vote supernatural that scene was really sad i cried cant wait 4 next season
vote for sam in supernatural

Seriously? The Blair one? What about when Jenny told Eric what happened? That was TRULY heartbreaking! CB weren't even together. It just figures how much bias this site has. *rolleyes*

Seriously? Sam sacrificing himself and hurling himself into Hell kind of takes the cake for heartbreaking. You don't get much more heartbreaking than that. Everything else is child's play. Then again, everything else on the network is child's play...

VAMPIRE DIARIES! and yes, that hug elena gave damon is EPIC!

Okay, I can say for 100% of my confidence, that Supernatural should win this one HANDS DOWN.
No matter how many loyal fans TVD has (willing to vote for the show no matter what), Supernatural should take this one home. No love for a girl can trump 5 seasons of strongly bonded brothers. TVD might win just cuz of their fans unable to vote actually according to the category instead of just the show. Notice how Supernatural fans are hesitant to vote for their own show when they get a shitty nomination (e.g., hottest moment) but I'm guessing the Vampire Diary people won't give it a second thought when voting.

Doesn't matter if TVD comes on top for this one, I know in my heart Supernatural gets this one. This is one category the show of supernatural actually embodies. I'll be really sad if TVD wins, but it'll be okay, cuz Kripke touched my heart with these two brothers for the past five seasons. That should be enough... That is enough.

I really wish people would vote for the best moment instead of just automatically picking their favorite show. It's not a contest to see which show has more superfans.

Haley, Quinn, and Taylor saying goodbye to Lydia, definitely. (Though Taylor's scene is the real tearjerker).

I so would've chose SPN if they had gone with the montage before that, but alas.

Supernatural scene for me, that was a tear jerker.

I voted for Gossip Girl--couldn't even watch it. After Blair realized, I had to skip ahead, omg. It literallyyy broke my heart.

This one BELONGS to Supernatural!!!!! The entire finale qualifies in this category!

P.S. you should have also added the scene where Lucifer is beating the crap out of Dean, & Dean tells Sam,that its Ok & he is not gonna leave him!!

omg Damon </3
but I did like the Blair/Chuck scene as well

OH, GAWD.

James D, you're talking about all those choices being lame, but the truth is that YOU saying "epic fail" is definition of lameness.

Do you know what RESPECT is? Doubtful.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES FTW!

THE WHOLE THING PWNS ALL THIS LIST IN EVERY SINGLE WAY! elena hugging damon, anyone?

Totally going for Sam! Broke my heart and had me bawling my eyes out.

Silver and Kelly's mom dies on 90210 ....Still remember when Jackie was so happy when she was about to marry David's dad when prego with Silver.

All these scenes are epic fail. Definitely can tell these are fan nominated because these choices are really lame. Moving on...

Huge fan of Supernatural so goin' for Sam, although there were several heart breaking moments this year.
