Gossip Girl: Graduation Blues

But we're getting ahead of ourselves here. First on the agenda is graduation. Yep, they did it. They made it through high school without getting thrown in the slammer or screwing up their college prospects…oh wait they did do all of that and Gossip Girl was at the ready to remind them of their past transgressions during the graduation ceremony. The avid blogger didn't miss a chance to leave the crew with a farewell speech. Instead of passing out diplomas, Gossip Girl passed out labels. Dan is the "Insider," Chuck is the "Coward," Nate is the "Whore," Blair is the "Weakling" and Serena will become "Irrelevant" once high school is over. Needless to say, the text blast took the wind out of everyone's sails.
Determined to put a stop to the endless cycle of abuse at the hands of the mysterious Gossip Girl, Serena decides to pick a fight. Unfortunately, Gossip Girl is bigger than Serena and in retaliation for trying to uncover the identity behind the site, Gossip Girl sends out every single bit of juicy gossip, verified or not, that she/he has. Dan's affair with the teacher gets out. Chuck's between-the-sheets dalliance with Vanessa becomes news, and we find out what really went down between Blair and Chuck's uncle on New Year's Eve. Oh the drama!
Chuck is miffed about Blair jumping in the sack with his uncle, and we're not sure where he gets off being mad since he slept with Vanessa. Seems like they're even to us. In the end, Gossip Girl wins and warns the kiddies that college will not be a reprieve from the site's ever-seeing eye.
We already know how the episode ended for our favorite star-crossed lovers, Chuck and Blair, but what about the rest of the gang? Nate quits his internship for the deputy mayor after she hits on him and begs Vanessa to let him tag along on her backpacking trip to Europe. Serena is off to Europe until she runs into Carter, who has a lead on her father's location. Rufus finally proposes to Lily. Jenny revels in her status as the new Queen before abolishing the monarchy tradition for good. Dan unknowingly runs into his half brother, who is very much alive and searching out Rufus and Lily. Yeah, we weren't surprised about that either.
And, Georgina decides to go to college in the city and request Blair as her roommate. Just when we has mixed feelings about how the writers were gonna pull off next season with everyone attending different college, they give us the most delicious twist. Blair and Georgina as roomies. Maybe Blair can just sleep at Chuck's. That is, if they make it through the summer.
What did you think? Were you happy with the finale? And let's just take a moment to point out how ridiculous Serena looked at graduation. First she's wearing that random powder blue slinky, backless, floor-length dress and then she walks in sans cap with her tassel stuck to the side of her head. We're all for fashion statements, but this just reeked of pretentiousness. Whew! Glad we got that wardrobe malfunction off of our chests (Um.... as it were).

I really think Serena needs more on-screen-being-bitchy-time. She got so boring. I can't see how she is/was THE IT GIRL. Seriously. This whole Blair-Chuck thing was great but it's about time they solved it. Now I would love to see some S time!
A real interessting thing is Jenny being the new Queen. I hope she is gonna go strong there.
xoxo.

I'm cutting Blair slack on the whole "uncle" situation. Plus we know that Blair is not proud of that moment of weakness.
Who in NY hasn't Chuck slept with? Remember the scene when he brought home the ballerina and he realized he had brought her home before and dismissed her? Chuck has far more of a tainted past and roving eye that Blair needs to be the one to worry about her heart, not Chuck.

The episode was pretty good, especially with the Blair/Chuck and Blair/Jenny parts...but what really tainted it for me was the N///V nonsense. Are we really going there again? How can Nate apologize to Vanessa, but not to Jenny? I just don't understand him. Next season, they better fix things or I won't be back as a viewer.

I can totally see why Chuck was upset about Blair and Jack.. First off it was right after she told chuck she loved him...his dad just died....and it was his UNCLE! Why would she even be upset about Vanessa? She was with Nate. And it's not like it was a surprise he slept with her. Wouldn't that be expected anyway???

I agree with Marie. Chuck sleeps with everyone, and Blair knows that. But I guess that was their only Chuck secret, and they needed them to be angry at each other, or whatever.
Otherwise, lovely episode. I did so much gushing at the end. I've never been so touched by this show haha. Embarrassing.

I agreed with Blair, the only real thing standing between them, was themselves.
For pete's sake, Chuck has slept with so many people, and never told anyone he loved them, why should V be a bleep on Blair's radar screen? Blair knows Chuck loves her.
As for Chuck, how dare he be mad, he has hurt Blair time and time again because he was a "coward".
I hope that the writers will keep them going, to get even stronger as time passes. Give them as a couple some great story lines now. Test their love in "together" ways. If they break them apart, my heart just won't be able to bare it.

Not that I excuse Chuck sleeping with Vanessa but Jack was his UNCLE. They were related which is quite gross to me and also Blair slept with him knowing that Jack was Chuck's uncle (I'm assuming this since Blair didn't say anything about not knowing who Jack was when she slept with him).

the thing i dont like is how gossip girl writers can get a lot of the details wrong by mixing college into it.
georgina can request to be a roommate with blair, but blair has to give her consent to that as well! otherwise it's a no-go. it wouldn't be a surprise like i'm sure it's going to played out like in the next season
and back to that SAT episode in season 1, they were JUNIORS at the time. and it was illustrated into the storyline, making it look like that was their only chance to take it. i took my SAT I as a senior and still got accepted into a respectable university.
and the nyu thing for blair. cyrus can't just call in a favor and she be accepted, unless that's how gossip girl is portraying how you can cheat the college system. blair needs to go through an appeal process, if she did - we don't know because that was never brought up. it only looked as if one phone call did the trick.
and do the gossip girl writers get away with blair dissing schools like brown, nyu, etc? that's really lame.
i know i'm being overly critical about the details, but it just bugs me when i see things like that when i'm a graduating senior of 2009 as well. the writers could probably use some insight from a currently graduating senior on how SATs and university stuff works.

and oh goodness, serena's dress towards the end when she tried to meet gossip girl. ugh. camera work was poor there too, at least with that dress. half the time it looked like she was nude when she was talking to dan.

my take on the actual episode:
it was okay for a season finale. wasn't stellar. it just seemed like an ordinary episode to me with a good dosage of chuck and blair.
i didn't really like how serena, nate, chuck, and blair just 'forgot' about the money poppy stole. at the very least, they could mention in a few lines about how they let it go.
i am interested in how georgina made poppy pay back the money. but i guess it's a little more intriguing this way too.
the chuck and blair scene at the end was good, but could've been better. i was hoping for a more epic kiss like in the limo in season 1.
so are we going to find serena's father? i hope so. that has me interested. i also wanted to see how lily hooked up with a guy she beat with her purse until she got arrested. the flashback was pretty interesting. gossip girl should continue that for at least an episode or two in the next season.

I think it was just completely unnecessary. Just like her and Carter. It served no purpose but to make Blair look like a skank. They could have had a picture of Blair kissing him and it would have caused about as much drama as we saw. But Chuck get forgetting about it in five minutes? I think not. That would ruin any real relationship.

I agree with you Marie. She just told him that she loved him and would stand by him through anything and then she sleeps with his uncle.
And it's HIS UNCLE. That's just gross.
But anyway it's behind them now, and they're too cute in love!

Gossip Girl was amazing last night, way better than One Tree Hill.

The only reason why I think Chuck had the "right" to be upset by Blair sleeping with his uncle Jack is because of WHEN it happened. After she told him that he loved her. True he left, but it still would have to hurt.
But I do not think Blair had the right to be upset with Chuck about sleeping with Vanessa because at the time Blair or Psycho Blair as I cal her was playing house with Nate.
Anyway, I am glad that, at least that drama is over with. And he finally told her that he loved her! *sigh*
